What We Did

The QuantumSi Platinum Pro was developed to revolutionize single-molecule proteomics, enabling unprecedented insights in protein sequencing for laboratories worldwide. Designed for efficiency, precision, and ease of use, this innovative system integrates advanced industrial design, UI/UX, and engineering to streamline research workflows. By combining cutting-edge technology with user-centered design, QuantumSi sets a new benchmark in laboratory instrumentation, making high-resolution proteomics more accessible and scalable than ever before.

Psycho-Aesthetics™

Product design is more than just winning awards; it’s about creating emotional connections between the product and the user. Our human-centered approach, Psycho-Aesthetics, helps us understand and quantify these connections. Our design firm uses it to create innovative products, technologies, services, brands, and more. We aim to create solutions that are relevant and impactful, using our approach to grow our clients’ businesses. With Psycho-Aesthetics as our foundation, we work with clients to establish a common language that can be used throughout our relationship. 

In the initial research phase, our team at RKS Design conducted an in-depth analysis of laboratory workflows and proteomics instrumentation, focusing on the needs of researchers and lab technicians. We identified key usability challenges, including workflow inefficiencies, user interface complexity, and hardware ergonomics. Through user interviews and competitive benchmarking, we uncovered opportunities for improved system configuration, interaction design, and portability. These insights helped us define the optimal balance between advanced technology and intuitive usability, ensuring that QuantumSi would deliver a seamless research experience.
Our strategy for QuantumSi centered on delivering a next-generation proteomics solution that aligned with the evolving needs of modern laboratories. We focused on enhancing efficiency, reducing complexity, and improving accessibility through a modular and user-friendly system. Key priorities included optimizing the physical layout for laboratory environments, streamlining the UI/UX for seamless workflow integration, and ensuring manufacturability. By leveraging human-centered design principles, we created a high-performance, easy-to-use system that empowers researchers to accelerate discoveries in proteomics.
The design phase was driven by a commitment to seamless functionality and modern aesthetics. At RKS Design, we applied our Psycho-Aesthetics methodology to ensure that the QuantumSi Platinum Pro delivers an intuitive and engaging user experience. The product’s sleek, compact form was designed to maximize efficiency and minimize lab space usage, while the large touchscreen interface enhances usability. Every detail, from component layout to interaction design, was carefully crafted to support precision-driven workflows, making the QuantumSi system both visually compelling and functionally optimized.
During the execution phase, RKS Design collaborated closely with QuantumSi to bring the Platinum Pro to life. This involved refining the industrial design, optimizing the UI/UX, and engineering prototypes for rigorous testing. We worked alongside manufacturing partners to ensure seamless production scalability, validating every aspect of material selection, hardware integration, and interface performance. The result was a cutting-edge proteomics system that combines innovation, usability, and manufacturability, setting a new standard in single-molecule protein sequencing technology.
