Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and timely diagnosis is critical for effective treatment.

Stroke is the second leading cause of death globally, responsible for approximately 11% of all deaths worldwide and timely diagnosis is critical for effective treatment. Traditional stroke diagnosis methods, such as CT and MRI scans, are time-consuming and often unavailable in emergency situations. StrokeDx, a pioneering stroke technology company, aimed to change this paradigm by developing a rapid, portable, and affordable stroke diagnostic device.

When StrokeDx came to us at RKS Design, they had a handheld prototype that required manual movement across the skull, which created an opportunity for user error when scanning a patient. Our collaboration transformed this initial proof of concept into an innovative wearable solution for use at the patient’s bedside. This new development automates the scanning process, significantly advancing stroke detection technology and ensuring the efficacy of the new diagnostic tool.

Innovating Stroke Detection with Wearable Technology

Our partnership with StrokeDx began with a clear objective: to create a proof-of-concept prototype for a wearable helmet that could automate the movement and scanning approach, thereby enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of stroke detection. During the definition phase, we explored viable opportunities and approaches to enable automation and defined the level of effort required for prototype development.

The wearable helmet we developed incorporates advanced sensors that detect different types of strokes. This automated scanning approach not only improves the accuracy of stroke diagnosis but also reduces the time required to detect and treat strokes, potentially saving lives and improving patient outcomes. By working closely with the StrokeDx team, we were able to integrate their cutting-edge technology into a user-friendly, wearable device that could revolutionize stroke diagnostics.

StrokeDx’s Recent Achievements

Our collaboration with StrokeDx has not only advanced their technology but also contributed to their recent notable achievements. In October 2023, StrokeDx was named the winner of the MedTech Innovator Global Competition, the world’s largest accelerator of medical technology companies. This prestigious recognition, accompanied by a $350,000 grand prize, highlighted StrokeDx’s innovative approach and its potential to transform stroke diagnostics.

Moreover, StrokeDx recently announced the successful closing of an oversubscribed $5 million Series Seed Prime funding round. Led by DigiTx Partners, this funding will support further clinical validation of StrokeDx’s groundbreaking technology and the expansion of its commercial efforts. The involvement of leading investors underscores the confidence in StrokeDx’s mission to provide early, accurate, and accessible stroke monitoring and detection solutions.
