SOTERA WIRELESS

Wireless patient monitoring system by RKS Design

Continuous patient monitoring with an advanced wireless system empowers healthcare teams to detect early signs of sepsis and other critical events, enabling swift intervention.

What We Did

The Sotera Wireless system was designed to revolutionize patient care by providing continuous wireless monitoring, empowering healthcare teams to detect early signs of sepsis and other critical events. This innovative solution integrates advanced technology with ergonomic design to support rapid intervention, improving patient outcomes. By combining seamless functionality with intuitive user interfaces for patients, physicians, and nurses, Sotera Wireless establishes a new standard in healthcare monitoring, redefining how critical care is delivered in hospitals.

Psycho-Aesthetics™

Product design is more than just winning awards; it’s about creating emotional connections between the product and the user. Our human-centered approach, Psycho-Aesthetics, helps us understand and quantify these connections. Sotera Wireless occupies the dynamic empowerment quadrant of the PA Map, combining advanced interactivity with the ability to enhance healthcare teams’ decision-making. Its continuous monitoring system fosters self-actualization by enabling swift, informed interventions in critical care scenarios.
In the research phase of the Sotera Wireless project, our team at RKS Design conducted comprehensive studies in hospital environments to evaluate the needs of healthcare providers and patients. This included in-depth interviews with physicians and nurses to identify pain points in existing monitoring systems and direct observation of workflows in critical care settings. We analyzed the challenges faced during patient monitoring, including device usability, reliability, and accessibility of data. These insights informed the development of a wireless system tailored to the real-world demands of healthcare professionals, ensuring it addressed both clinical and user-centric requirements.
Our strategy for Sotera Wireless focused on creating a system that seamlessly integrates advanced technology with practical usability for healthcare teams. We prioritized developing a solution that provided continuous monitoring while simplifying the user experience for patients, nurses, and physicians. By defining interface requirements for both wearable and web-based platforms, we ensured that the system addressed diverse needs, from bedside care to remote monitoring. This strategic direction emphasized the importance of intuitive design, robust technology, and manufacturable engineering to deliver a reliable, user-friendly solution.
The design phase of Sotera Wireless emphasized creating a product that balanced modern aesthetics with functionality. Using our Psycho-Aesthetics methodology, we developed a wearable monitor and interface that provided seamless usability and visual clarity. The device’s ergonomic form factor ensured comfort for patients while allowing for easy handling by healthcare staff. UI/UX designs for both the wearable and web platforms were created with an emphasis on intuitive navigation and rapid data access, ensuring healthcare teams could act quickly during critical moments. The final design reflected a cohesive blend of form, function, and innovation.
During the execution phase, RKS Design worked closely with Sotera’s engineering team to refine the system for manufacturing and deployment. Rigorous user testing ensured that both the physical device and UI/UX interfaces met the high standards of functionality and usability required in healthcare settings. Advanced manufacturing techniques and iterative prototyping allowed us to deliver a lightweight, durable device that integrated seamlessly with existing hospital systems. The final product, Sotera Wireless, empowers healthcare teams to provide faster, more efficient care while enhancing the overall patient experience, setting a new benchmark in continuous monitoring technology.
