What We Did
Psycho-Aesthetics™
Product design is more than just winning awards; it’s about creating emotional connections between the product and the user. Our human-centered approach, Psycho-Aesthetics, helps us understand and quantify these connections. Our design firm uses it to create innovative products, technologies, services, brands, and more. We aim to create solutions that are relevant and impactful, using our approach to grow our clients’ businesses. With Psycho-Aesthetics as our foundation, we work with clients to establish a common language that can be used throughout our relationship. We found the opportunity zone for the IGT Poker Bartop to be in the enriched quadrant of the P/A Map, providing a richer feature set and deeper immersion. Here we wanted to provide IGT Poker Bartop players with an experience that felt natural, was fully digital but felt like they were in the casino playing at the table.
At RKS Design, we were thrilled to collaborate with IGT, a prominent player in the gaming industry, to redesign their poker bar top machine. This project presented an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in an underserved niche within the gambling machine space. Our team conducted extensive research and engaged in workshops with key users and bartenders to understand the unique dynamics and challenges of the bar top gaming environment. Through our research-driven approach and expertise in research, strategy, and product definition, we identified the key market needs and set out to create a new standard of care.
To achieve our goal, we focused on striking a balance between usability, aesthetics, and functionality. We recognized the desire of casino owners and managers to have a minimal and clean gaming module that seamlessly integrates with their establishments. Simultaneously, we aimed to provide an exciting gaming experience for users without compromising the low-profile design. Leveraging advanced screen technology, such as the j screen with an accelerated curve, we achieved a modern and elegant shape while maintaining a compact footprint. Additionally, we paid attention to the traditional layout and key interfaces that poker players are familiar with, ensuring a seamless transition to the new technology.
The result is a cutting-edge poker bar top machine that combines modern aesthetics, intuitive user experience, and technological advancements, setting a new standard for countertop gaming devices. The impact we achieved with the IGT Poker Bar Top machine was truly transformative. By stepping away from conventional sheet metal designs, we introduced an exciting gaming product that looked fantastic on counters in modern casinos. Our approach marked a leap forward in the industry, where little design, development, or modernization had occurred within countertop gaming machines.
The cleanability, usability, and overall aesthetics of the product were highly praised, delivering a solid and innovative solution. Our aim was to create a sense of modernity and connection for consumers, enticing them to engage with the product even before sitting down to use it. This was achieved by blending modern technology with familiar interactions, striking the perfect balance between tradition and innovation. We are immensely proud of the impact we made through this project, as it exceeded expectations and set a new standard in the gaming industry.
